Hopefully they get him for a small price becuase at this point they can't afford to be blowing money on a "mentor".

they are getting him in order to hurry up and sign Russell. He still hasn't finalized his deal yet.

    Re: For all the naysayers..

The way I view Culpepper is this: His best year numbers wise was 2004...2005 was his injury year. He was put behind a problematic line in Miami with a half healed knee in 2006. So, really, what do we know about his ability now? If the Raiders line is improved by Tom Cable, and Daunte has some of his mobility back, he could possibly make Russell sit this year anyways. Afterall, he still has a lifetime QB rating over 90...So, I think it is prolly the best move Oakland has made in a while. Plus, after being turned down by the Bucs and little interset shown in him, Culpepper will have a chip on his shoulder. Could be the perfect storm..or it could be the perfect bust.

If it wasn't for Manning breaking Dan Marino's TD record and putting up massive numbers in 05 Culpepper would have been the League MVP no doubt. You could be right about Russell sitting this year but I just don't see it, of course if he doesn't hurry and sign on the dotted line he will sit anyway. If they can get Culpepper for little or nothing it will be a great move but if not, it will be a typical Al Davis f-up.

    Re: For all the naysayers..

Culpepper is a pro, and knows the game. IMO he will pick up the Raiders new system quicker than the younger QBs. Russell would do nothing but benefit from watching much of the games from the sidelines. Plus, Culpepper and Russell have similar body types and abilities...so the O will basically look the same with both QBs when it is all said and done, and there won't have to be certain adjustments made depending on who the QB behind center is.

Its alot of fun knowing how many other qb's will be saying those exact lines over the course of ol number 18's career.
I see Manning getting MVP atleast 3 or 4 more times in his career, if he stays healthy. And personally I think he is a great rolemodel for kids (esp with all the bad stuff goin on right now w/players in the NFL getting into trouble).
